About the project

Siegl kontejnery provides container drop-off and pickup. We built them an internal dispatch app along with a customer website that takes each order from inquiry all the way to drop-off. Both run on the same data, so the dispatcher and the customer see the same order status.

Goal

Take manual planning out of dispatch. Routes were put together in spreadsheets and on paper, changes were handled over the phone, and information about an order lived in several places at once. The goal was to bring the entire operating day onto one screen the dispatcher never has to leave.

Challenge

The trucks had to keep rolling. The system went live in the middle of full operations, and the people who would be using it were accustomed to paper and knew their routes by heart. So instead of rewriting the way they worked, we first documented it and only then digitized it. The app had to be usable from day one, not after a month of training.

Solution

We delivered a dispatch app with an overview of orders, capacity and routes, along with a customer website for ordering a container. An order placed on the website goes straight into the plan, and a date change goes through without a phone call. Instead of piecing routes together from scraps, the dispatcher only deals with exceptions.
